Marty Robbins - That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine (Under Western Skies Disc 4)
In a vine-covered shack in the mountains
Bravely fighting the battle of time
Is a dear one who's weathered life's sorrows
It's that silver haired daddy of mine
If I could recall all the heartaches
Dear old daddy, I've caused you to bear
If I could erase those lines from your face
And bring back the gold to your hair
If God would but grant me the power
Just to turn back the pages of time
I'd give all I own if I could but atone
To that silver haired daddy of mine
But I know it's too late, dear old daddy
To repay for the sorrows and cares
Though dear mother is waiting in Heaven
Just to comfort and solace you there
If I could recall all the heartaches
Dear old daddy, I've caused you to bear
If I could erase those lines from your face
And bring back the gold to your hair
If God would but grant me the power
Just to turn back the pages of time
I'd give all I own if I could but atone
To that silver haired daddy of mine
Marty Robbins That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine (03:35)
Gene Autry and Jimmy Long wrote this song (or updated Red River Valley in all honesty) in the 30's
and it went on to become a million seller for Gene. Others to have recorded the song include Jim
Reeves, Johnny Cash, The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel. The only time it actually made the
Country chart was in 1980 where it reached the far from lofty heights of position 69 by Slim
Whitman. Marty must have known the song so well that I doubt he needed the sheet music when he
recorded ...
thank you Mike, a Very pretty song... my mom loved Marty Robbins and she had ALOT of his albums, so I grew up listening to him as well...
